Tours

Te Rua o Mahara team run specialised tours discussing the rich history, culture and ecology of Wairarapa Moana using our Mātai Whetū (pictured) to help tell our stories.

Your Te Rua o Mahara guides - Amber Craig, Tiraumaera Te Tau, and Raihānia Tipoki - have deep connections to Ōnoke and Wairarapa Moana. This connection goes even further back perhaps than the arrival of our ancestor Kupe around a millennium ago. These young local Māori are passionate about rebalancing today’s world with the ancient wisdom and philosophies of their forefathers and mothers. They are tangata whenua (land people) and tangata moana (sea people) who seek to breathe life into past and contemporary narratives of land and water to reaffirm and strengthen their relationships with their ancestors, their people, and their place.

Mātai Whetū that was built by our team and used on our Tours to help tell stories of our Maramataka, stories of how we connect to other places in New Zealand and how time works in Te Ao Māori.
